CA Democratic Party Delegate Election AD 62

On Sunday, January 27, 2019, the California Democratic Party will convene Delegate elections and Executive Board elections. These delegates will select the next Party Chair in May, endorse candidates who will lead us in 2020 elections, vote to support or oppose ballot propositions and be the backbone of our Party by deciding on our platform and positions. 

We will be electing 14 delegates from the 62nd Assembly District to the California Democratic Party - leaders who will give voice to our community and fight for the issues important to us. Registered Democrats in Marina Del Rey, Inglewood, El Segundo, Westchester, Playa del Rey, Venice, Hawthorne, Westmont, West Athens, Lennox, and Lawndale can vote!

The 62nd Assembly District humbly ask you to make your plan to vote for the 62nd AD Progressives. We are tireless, successful leaders in our communities and have worked for years on the grassroots level and with elected representatives to give a voice to the issues that affect us here at home.

Vote for D'Artagnan Scorza, Taylor Bazley, Terry Cole, Greg Dina, Nate Kaplan, Marc Saltzberg, Deana Becker, Betsy Butler, Dionne Faulk, Linda Lucks, Duane Muller, Shannon Thomas-Allen, Elissa Underwood. Also, vote for Scott Mayers for Executive Board member.

The 62nd AD Progressives are proud to be endorsed by Congresswoman Karen Bass, Congressman Ted Lieu, Senator Ben Allen, Assemblywoman Autumn Burke, and Los Angeles City Councilmember Mike Bonin.

Who can vote: A person may participate in the ADEM if he/she: 

1) Is a Democrat residing in and registered to vote in the Assembly District. Same Day registration is allowed. 
2) Pays a $5 fee or indicates on a form that to pay the fee would constitute an economic hardship. 
3) Signs in on the sign-in sheet to indicating his or her willingness to assume an organizational responsibility for one or more precincts within the district or to assume another specified organizational responsibility for the Party.  
4) Accepts having their hand stamped before receiving a ballot to prevent double voting.

Dr. Scott Mayers - Executive Board Candidate

It has been an honor to serve as the Interim E-Board Rep for AD 62. As a long-time CDP Delegate, I am grateful to have been chosen the Democrat of the Year for the 62ndAD in 2016 and Male Volunteer of the Year in 2017. For many years now, it’s been my privilege as owner of THE LANTERN HOUSE to host dozens of events that have succeeded in raising thousands of dollars to help elect candidates in CA. I look forward to uniting our party, and I humbly ask for your vote. Thank you!

Taylor Bazley

As Deputy for LA City Councilmember Mike Bonin, I manage initiatives in Venice with a special lead on homelessness issues. I am an LGBT activist, elected Board Member of the Stonewall Democratic Club, & EQCA Advisory Board Member. I am a proud Bruin and first-generation college graduate who is passionate about solving homelessness, income inequality, housing affordability, and fighting for civil rights.

Terry Cole

As a delegate, it’s my responsibility and privilege to support commonsense legislation at all levels that advance a progressive agenda. With your support, I plan to continue to advocate for inclusion, intelligent solutions that are fiscally-responsible and specifically relate to fixing our healthcare systems, reforming immigration laws, promoting business, the economy. I’d be humbled and honor to have your confidence and support.

Greg Dina

I am proud to be an active Democrat who has proudly served on the board of the Westchester-Playa Democratic Club since 2013. The 62nd AD faces challenges similar to CA as a whole regarding affordable housing, homeless services, sustainability, income inequality, and transit equity. I look forward to working with the 62nd AD delegates and Assemblymember to explore solutions to these causes.

Nate Kaplan

I have been an active player on the progressive political scene from coast to coast, with a background in local, state and federal elections. I received a master’s degree in public policy from USC while working as a district director for LA City Council District 11, where I worked on issues of transportation, social policy, economic development, land use, public safety, sustainable cities, affordable housing, and policies to improve the quality of life for communities in Los Angeles.

D’Artagnan Scorza, Ph.D.

I  am committed to advancing a progressive agenda that prioritizes our values & advances equity within our district and throughout the State. Not only must we protect vulnerable communities and the environment but, we must ensure that our party is transparent, held accountable and stands with integrity. As a Delegate, I pledge to bring the type of leadership & teamwork that will help my fellow Democrats succeed.

Marc Saltzberg

I have represented your voice and concerns as President of the WLADC, Vice President of my Neighborhood Council and as your delegate to the CA Democratic Party. I helped found the Westchester-Playa Dem Club and was honored by the LA County Dem Party as Democrat of the Year from our AD in 2011. This November, I won a seat on the E-Board of the Sierra Club's Airport-Marina Group. With your vote, I’ll work to improve our party and bring more Democratic victories!

Deana Becker

Deana J. Becker resides in Marina Del Rey. She has lived in Los Angeles for 17 years and also spent three years in Denmark. Deana is a filmmaker, actor and developmental disabilities advocate. Deana was a Delegate to the 2016 DNC, and she is looking forward to continuing to serve her community as your elected Assembly District Delegate.

Betsy Butler

I am a proud Democratic activist and community advocate who was honored to represent our beautiful area in the California Assembly where I fought for equal rights and opportunity for all, environmental justice, and ensuring our children, elders, and veterans have a voice. I am the Executive Director of the California Women’s Law Center, Chair the CA Commission on Aging, and serve as a Commissioner on the Los Angeles Probation Commission. I have been a resident of the district for 30 years and would be grateful to have your support.

Dionne Faulk

In 2017, I was elected to the Inglewood Unified School Board where I serve the children of AD 62nd in the City of Inglewood. I began my public service career in 2003 when I was appointed Commissioner to the 10th District Public Safety Commission in charge of working with the Los Angeles Police Department. I went on to be appointed to the California State Employee Association (CSEA) Foundation Board, a nonprofit that promotes charitable services for  California State Employees. I was honored with the Volunteer of the Year Award by the AD 62nd for my service in May 2015.  I’d be honored to have your support.

Linda Lucks

I’m proud to run for a third term as an AD 62 Delegate on a diverse and inclusive slate. I am a member of the WLA Democratic Club and was selected “2018 Woman of the Year” by Asm. Autumn Burke. I work for the Venice Community Housing reduce homelessness, maximize affordable housing and empower low-income residents by providing social services. I look forward to representing you again!

Duane Muller

Active in politics for over 25 years, I am the President of the Westchester-Playa Dem Club. Professionally, my entire career has focused on climate change policy; currently, I serve as the Assistant Director, Government Liaison for Environment/Sustainability with UCLA’s Sustainable LA Grand Challenge. I would be honored to serve the AD-62 community and will be a champion for the environment and smart growth.

Shannon Allen-Thomas

Shannon Thomas Allen is a wife and mother. She is an advocate for students with special needs. She is a former Lennox School Board of Trustee. Shannon will be your voice in electing the people who will be representing you and your community.

Elissa Underwood

I have been a Lead Phlebotomist, currently working at Kaiser Permanente, for 18 years. I am also a proud E-Board member of my union, SEIU - United Health Care Workers West, where I am currently serving my second term. The reason I am running for Assembly District 62 delegate is to continue advocating for my community and improve healthcare, education, and the standard of living in California.
